Math 20 – Applied

Goals for Students

Applied mathematics is designed to give students a clearer understanding of mathematics and how it is useful in their careers and everyday life. Students will learn to demonstrate effective communication skills involving understanding, using, and interpreting various media types. Tasks are designed to develop student flexibility and responsibility by working both individually and in cooperative groups. Students will use technology for mathematical exploration, modelling, and problem-solving.

This course is also designed to develop an appreciation of the importance and relevance of mathematics as part of the cultural heritage that assists people to utilize relationships that influence their environment and an appreciation of the role of mathematics in man’s total environment.

1st 6 Weeks: Graphs and Systems of Equations

2nd 6 Weeks: Linear Programming and Personal Finance

3rd 6 Weeks: Objects & Shapes and Measurement

Six Week Exam 25%

Twelve Week Exam 25%

The previous six categories are weighted as 60% of the final grade.

The final exam is worth 40% of the final grade.
