Math 30 Applied

Applied Mathematics 30 is dedicated to giving students an opportunity to grow mathematically by leading the students through a rigorous, relevant and meaningful curriculum, defined more by approach than by content. This course engages students in hands-on, open-ended, context-rich explorations that depend on authentic data and the use of real-world tools, especially the tools of technology. The mathematical tasks are designed to develop student flexibility and responsibility.

Principles

Students need to see that the mathematics they are learning is useful and important now.

Motivated students take responsibility for their learning and their performance. Through practical experience, they build the self-confidence they need to use mathematics effectively.

Thinking about mathematical applications and working on mathematical projects give students many chances to create, reflect, evaluate and communicate.

Applied mathematics emphasizes the value of numerical, geometrical and graphical approaches to problem solving.
